Assam along with the rest of the country have celebrated India's 71st Republic Day on Sunday. Elaborate arrangements have been made in Guwahati where the Republic Day function has been organised centrally.
Governor Jagdish Mukhi has unfurled the National Tricolor at the College of Veterinary Science playground, Guwahati at 9 am and also took the guard of honour.
The Governor has also made his customary Republic Day speech addressing the people of the State. The State function has featured performances by students from schools, besides parade by members of Scouts and Guides, and NCC.
Republic Day has also been celebrated in all the district headquarters where public representatives and senior government officials will unfurl the National Flag at the respective venues.
The day has also been celebrated by educational institutions, private institutions and public at large where the Tricolour will be unfurled ceremoniously.
