Congress president Rahul Gandhi criticised Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath for arresting journalist Prashant Kanojia by the Uttar Pradesh police for 'defaming the' CM.
Rahul Gandhi twitted,"If every journalist whofiles a false report or peddles fake, vicious RSS/BJP sponsored propagandaabout me is put in jail, most newspapers/ news channels would face a severestaff shortage. The UP CM is behaving foolishly & needs to release thearrested journalists."
It may be mentioned here that total of five people were arrested along with Prashant Kanojia on charges of posting objectionable content against the Chief Minister.
Notably soon after Rahul's tweet, Supreme Court ordered immediate release of Prashant Kanojia, on a plea filed by his wife.
Kanojia was arrested for sharing a video onTwitter and Facebook where a woman is seen speaking to reporters of variousmedia organisations outside the chief minister's office claiming that she hadsent a marriage proposal to Yogi Adityanath.
A day after arresting the chief of privatetelevision news channel Nation Live Ishika Singh and editor Anuj Shukla, UP policehad also cracked down on the news channel in Noida for allegedly runningwithout a license.
It has led to various controversies and debates.A group of journalists also organized a protest against the arrest on Monday.
