The Russian Sports Ministry has refused to officially recognise cricket as a sport. According to reports, the Russian Sports Ministry has refused to grat sport status to the game due to a lack of regional affiliations in the country.
However, Moscow Cricket Federation member Aleskandr Sokorin said the refusal was due to errors in its application for inclusion on the ministry’s register. “This time we didn’t fully prepare the documents, there were some technical issues. We need to open more regional affiliations. Right now there are around 20, and we need 48,” said Sokorin.
On the other hand, footgolf, sports yoga, model plane flying, ice stock sport and korfball are among the disciplines that Russia has granted sports status.
