Assam pugilist Shiva Thapa on Saturday won the gold in 63kg category at the VII Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup 2019. Thapa was given a walkover to the gold after his opponent Kazakhstan’s Zakir Safiullin could not enter the ring due to injury.
On the other hand, Indian sensation Parveen settled for silver, after being defeated by Kazakhstan’s Rimma Volosenko in the final. Earlier, in the semi-finals, the Indian young talent had defeated Women’s World Championships bronze medallist Karina Ibragimova 3-2.
Meanwhile, in 69kg, Duryodhan Singh Negi lost 1-4 to Kazakhstan’s Shayken Talgat in the semi-finals to settle for bronze, while Saweety Bora endured the same fate in 75kg against Russia’s Elena Gapeshina to get the bronze.
