Sonowal Sets To Extend Rail Connectivity


In a bid to extend the rail connectivity in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal sought Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal intervention to clear three projects namely Bongaigaon-Kamakhya via Rangia doubling project, Saraighat Bridge Doubling project and Tezpur-Silghat New Line project.

Sonowal said that a new survey has been conducted to introduce a new railway line from Rangiya to Dekargaon covering Darrang district. Talking about the projects, Sonowal said that although the projects have been included in the Pink Book of Railway Ministry, they need expeditious clearance from the competent authority.

Many new projects of railway lines are underway for which Sonowal seeks approval from the union ministry of railway. The new projects include railway line connecting the places of religious importance namely Gorokhia Guhai Than Sorbhog to Amingaon via Barpeta Sattra, Bohari Sattra, Sarthebari Na’ Sattra and Poa Mecca in Hajo. He also ask Goyal to make the racks available for transporting potato, onion and other essential commodities to Assam and other North Eastern states.

Other than the mentioned projects, Sonowal also reiterates about other projects of railway to the union rail minister and asks him to take intervention so that the projects could be started soon adding that the ongoing survey for a new line connecting Gogamukh-Kamalabari-Garmur and Jorhat needs to be completed soon.

As many students from the state travel to other parts of the country to pursue higher studies, Sonowal also urge the union minister to introduce concession for students in the travel fare and introduce super-fast trains with limited stoppages outside Assam from Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Silchar to Mumbai, Pune in the West, Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum and Kochi in the South, Amritsar and Jammu in the North.
