Sonowal Sets To Extend Rail Connectivity

In a bid toextend the rail connectivity in Assam, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal soughtUnion Railway Minister Piyush Goyal intervention to clear three projects namelyBongaigaon-Kamakhya via Rangia doubling project, Saraighat Bridge Doublingproject and Tezpur-Silghat New Line project.

Sonowal saidthat a new survey has been conducted to introduce a new railway line fromRangiya to Dekargaon covering Darrang district. Talking about the projects,Sonowal said that although the projects have been included in the Pink Book ofRailway Ministry, they need expeditious clearance from the competent authority.

Many newprojects of railway lines are underway for which Sonowal seeks approval fromthe union ministry of railway. The new projects include railway line connectingthe places of religious importance namely Gorokhia Guhai Than Sorbhog toAmingaon via Barpeta Sattra, Bohari Sattra, Sarthebari Na' Sattra and Poa Meccain Hajo. He also ask Goyal to make the racks available for transporting potato,onion and other essential commodities to Assam and other North Eastern states.

Other thanthe mentioned projects, Sonowal also reiterates about other projects of railwayto the union rail minister and asks him to take intervention so that theprojects could be started soon adding that the ongoing survey for a new lineconnecting Gogamukh-Kamalabari-Garmur and Jorhat needs to be completed soon.

As manystudents from the state travel to other parts of the country to pursue higherstudies, Sonowal also urge the union minister to introduce concession forstudents in the travel fare and introduce super-fast trains with limitedstoppages outside Assam from Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Silchar to Mumbai, Pune inthe West, Chennai, Bangalore, Trivandrum and Kochi in the South, Amritsar andJammu in the North.
