Draft EIA notification 2020 has triggered a fresh wave of protests in many parts of the country. In Assam too, people, organisations and political parties are coming out vociferously against the draft.
Today, members of the Youth Congress staged strong protests in Nalbari in this connection. Agitating in front of Nalbari's Rajiv Bhawan, the protestors demanded the annulment of the said draft.
During the protests, the agitators accused the Union government of trying to destroy the biodiversity of Assam through the EIA draft 2020. It was also alleged that the BJP was finding a way to rob the state of its natural resources.
Similar protests were also seen today in Khelmati, Lakhimpur. Members of the Human Rights Sangram Samiti staged a sit-in for two hours demanding cancellation of the draft. Artists are also reported to have expressed their dismay and displeasure over the controversial draft through songs.
