Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who died on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest will be cremated with state honours on Wednesday.
Her body will be kept at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters for three hours this afternoon for the leaders and party workers to pay their last tributes to the former minister.
Political leaders across party lines as well as people on social media expressed grief and shock at her sudden demise. Swaraj’s body will be kept at the BJP headquarter till 3 PM after which her body will be taken to the Lodhi Road crematorium to perform her last rites.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while remembering the veteran politician, said that a glorious chapter in Indian politics has come to an end.
Veteran politicians such as Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Smriti Irani, Harsh Vardhan, Prakash Javadekar, Ramesh Pokriyal were among those who visited the hospital last night after her demise.
Her body was taken to her home where former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati paid their last respects early on Wednesday.
Hours before her death, Swaraj had tweeted to PM Modi to congratulate over the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation bill in the Parliament.
