Amid uproar by the opposition, the Triple Talaq Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday evening. 303 members of the parliament voted in favour of the Bill, while only 8 members voted against it.
“We must ensure that Muslim women are part of the country’s growth,” said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, while opening the debate.
“As far as Triple Talaq Bill is concerned, Criminality Clause may be misused by the police and the government,” said Congress MP K Suresh.
On the other hand, speaking about the triple talaq issue, BJP MP Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “It actually is a dark mark on our society and should be abolished.”
