Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 95th birthday is being celebrated as Good Governance Day across the country today by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) . Several programmes are being organised to mark the occasion.
Meanwhile, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Vajpayee's memorial Sadaiv Atal at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal to the nation. THe BJP stalwat had served as the country's Prime Minister betwen 1998 and 2004. He passed away on August 16 this year at AIIMS in Delhi after prolonged illness.
Soon after coming to power, the NDA government had declared that the birthday of its tallest leader will be observed as Good Governance Day. He was also conferred with India's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna by the Modi government.
Prime minister Narendra Modi also released a commemorative Rs 100 coin in the memory of the three-time prime minister on December 24, 2018.
