Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched ‘Selfie with Sapling’ campaign on the occasion of World Environment Day celebrated on June 5 urging to plant a sapling and click a selfie with it.
Prakash Javadekar who took charge as the environment minister on Saturday said that people’s participation is an integral part to tackle environmental issues and it has to be a people’s movement. Launching the campaign, the Minister said, “I am sure that people will actively participate in the World Environment Day with enthusiasm and I appeal to the people to plant a sapling , click a picture with it and post it in social media using #SelfiewithSapling.”
The minister said that the Modi government believes that environment is not just a government programme but a people’s programme. The ministry has also released a music video recently with this year’s theme of World Environment Day ‘Hawa Aane De.’
The video released by the ministry features Bollywood actors like Akshay Kumar and Rajkumar Rao among others. Renowned singers Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan and Sunidhi Chauhan lent their voices to the song.
The Centre also launched National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) in January last to reduce air pollution by 2024.
The environment ministry also informed that an action plan has also been prepared by the committee formed under the NCAP to draw up for 84 of 102 non-attainment cities which do not meet the national air quality standard.
