The conditions of roads in many parts of Assam are in adeplorable condition although the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in theCentre and Assam has promised to improve the road conditions in the state. It'sbeen three years of the formation of the Sarbananda Sonowal-led BJP governmentbut till date people in most parts of the state are suffering problems due tothe worst road conditions.
The road from Barpeta to Manas National Park is in worstcondition and the road can't be said road anymore as it has turned into a pondlike structure. The BJP government in Assam has assured the people that itwould improve the road conditions but even after three years of the governmentthese roads remain the same. Even BJP MLA and President Ranjit Kumar Das andPWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have also ignored the condition of the roads.It is not only the local people who have to travel through the deplorable roadbut also the foreign tourists have to travel through these roads which is veryshameful.
On the other hand, massive corruption has been allegedlyreported in the construction of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) inDhemaji. It was after a week of the construction that the roads have been breached.
Meanwhile, the Dhodar Ali road connecting Namati to Najirais also in a pathetic condition and people alleged that it has become a threatto life as many accidents happen in the area due to its worst condition.
It is not only the roads but non-availability of bridges insome area has also become a huge concern for the people in the Chief Ministersconstituency itself in Majuli. Allegations has been made that there is amassive scam in the construction of Rs. 1crore 36lakhs bridge to be built in BhakatChapori in Majuli. People alleged that the construction of the bridge which wasstarted in June last year has not yet completed by contractor Sanjib Sarma.
