Assam: Enforcement Inspector Arrested In Coal Scam

Cachar police have arrested an Enforcement Inspector of the Transport Department for his alleged involvement in a coal smuggling racket.

The arrestee, identified as one Bhaba Kalita, was in charge of the check gate at Digarkhal. He was nabbed during an operation in Barak Valley.

As per reports, smugglers have been utilising Gumrah in the Cachar district as a secure gateway into Assam with illegally loaded trucks. The corrupt officials often assisted the trucker's movement against heavy payments.

Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Ramandeep Kaur had initiated an operation to counter the coal mafias based on which the arrest was made.

Firstly, the police formation was rearranged. Ghumrah and Katigorah's in-charges were transferred and replaced by new officers.

Kalita was held for interrogation on October 18. He was arrested after interrogation that lasted for more than 24 hours.

Morever, another accused coal mafia, Kari Taher Ahmed was also apprehended.
