Tarun Gogoi lashes out at BJP

Former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while addressing the media over the Dhola mayhem in Tinisukia on Thursday and said that the state government has completely failed to provide security to the people of Assam. Gogoi condemned the mass murder incident and demanded capital punishment for the culprits. He also demanded a CBI enquiry of the incident.

Speaking about Rebati Phukan, Gogoi said, "Rebati Phukan tried bringing back the separatist outfit ULFA to mainstream. He was working as a mediator between the Centre-ULFA and was kidnapped in broad daylight from Guwahati. The government has failed to crack the Reboti Phukan missing case". Gogoi also alleged that Rebati Phukan has been a victim of conspiracy and is dead. The home ministry  and intelligence have failed completely to maintain peace and harmony in the state., added Gogoi.

Gogoi condemned the communal statements made by Hojai MLA Shiditya Deb and Pro Talks ULFA leaders Mrinal Hazarika and Jiten Dutta over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

He also demanded the arrest of Shiladitya Deb for making provocative remarks.

Earlier on Thusday, six youths from a Hindu Bengali community, who were sitting in a shop at Kherbari, about four km from Sadiya, were picked up by the gunmen in camouflage attire on Thursday at around 7: 30 pm. They men were taken to the bank of the Brahmaputra river, asked to sit in line and were shot at, as per an eye witness, who escaped from the spot.  The victims have been identified as Shyamal Biswas (60), Ananta Biswas (18), Abhinash Biswas (23), Subal Das (60) and Dhananjay Namasudra (23).
