Panbazar Police Seize Large Haul of Fake Apple Products from Guwahati
In a major operation against counterfeit electronics, the Panbazar Police on Wednesday seized a significant quantity of fake Apple products from Guwahati’s upscale mobile accessories market, exposing what appears to be a thriving black market in branded fakes.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team conducted raids at multiple shops in the high-demand Lakhtokia mobile market area. During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated a substantial stock of counterfeit Apple goods, including fake iPhones, chargers, USB cables, and headphones — all carrying the Apple trademark.
The seizure was made from four commercial establishments: Assam Mobile Accessories, NK King, NK King Mumbai, and Shree Ramdev Mobile. All four shops were found to be openly selling these counterfeit goods under the guise of genuine Apple products.
“We have seized multiple fake iPhones along with a range of accessories that mimic original Apple packaging and branding. Further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain of these counterfeit items,” a police official from Panbazar said.
Preliminary estimates suggest that the seized items could be worth several lakhs in the retail market. Investigators are now probing whether the outlets were part of a larger inter-state or international counterfeit distribution network.
The raids come at a time when consumer demand for high-end smartphones and accessories in Guwahati has been steadily rising, especially in areas like Lakhtokia, making it a hotspot for grey market and fake goods.
Police have also issued a public advisory urging citizens to be cautious while purchasing electronic devices and accessories, especially from unverified vendors. Officials said legal action would be taken against the shop owners and further arrests are likely.
