The campaigning for the first phrase of election will begin from Tuesday. 44731 candidates have submitted nomination for 15899 posts for the first phrase of Panchayat Polls. 881 candidates have submitted nomination for 251 Zila Parishad Council posts. 3935 candidates for the post of 1304 regional Regional Panchayat Member and 4493 members have submitted nominated for 1340 Panchayat President Post.
For 13040 Panchayat Members, 35423 members have submitted nominations.
An amendment Bill passed by Assam Assembly has barred persons with more than two children from contesting panchayat elections in the state besides determining minimum education qualification for one top become eligible to be members and chief of different levels of Panchayati Raj bodies in the state, said State Election Commissioner Harendra Nath Bora.
The Panchayat polls will be held on December 5 and December 9 in two phrases in 26 districts and 14 civil sub-divisions. The counting will take place on December 12.
The last date for nomination for the first phrase was 15th November whereas the nomination date for the second phrase is 19th November.
