The Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) since yesterday tainted those opposing their alliance by visiting each other's head offices and sent out a clear message they do not care any opposition.
The AGP meanwhile have started cracking the whip on the party leaders who have opposed the merger. One of them is Central Executive Member and senior party leader Pranab Goswami, who was suspended for one year and relieved from the Central Executive party.
Not satisfied with visiting each other's party, the AGP leadership took an afternoon flight to New Delhi to take part in the negotiation with the BJP at New Delhi where the BJP would announce the candidature list of their share of 10 seats.
The BJP is expected to announce the list late in the evening tomorrow and the AGP will also announce their three while the other coalition partner BPF had already announced their candidature by selecting Pameela Rani Brahma as their candidate.
The AGP has no real business at New Delhi but they have come to get assurance for one Rajya Sabha seat in coming June besides the money bag for Lok Sabha election.
Meanwhile, in the state BJP headquarter, bot the parties further rubbed salt on the bruised egos of the regional minded Assamese, when they addressed a joint press conference iterating their known stand on the CAB and promising to overcome them through "consultation and negotiation".
The AGP is fielding Moni Madhab Mahanta at Koliabor, Zaved Islam in Dhubri and Kumar Deepak Das at Barpeta. The merger has been strongly opposed by the majority of the AGP grass root leaders, but the party leaders, barring former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, have welcomed it.
Opposing the alliance he stated that the alliance decision was illegal as it did not have the concurrence of the General Council, which has got the maximum power. But it seems that about a dozen leaders of the AGP led by three ministers have decided to sideline Mr Mahanta by supporting the BJP.
