Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami welcomed 20 students on Monday for a maiden internship programme at the House in order to motivate them to take up politics as a career to serve the society.
In the month-long internship programme, students from colleges and universities all over the state would research on Assembly-related topics with a scholastic eye.
The 20 students, participating in Speaker's Research Initiative, have been selected on the basis of merit and will be granted access to the Assam Assembly library and archives to aid their research.
At the Inaugural function, Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia had spoken to the students about the significance of opposition in a democratic system while Additional Chief Secretary AK Singh suggested the students to publish their findings in the form of a book.
Speaker's Research Initiative is the first-of-its-kind internship programme in the state.
