The voting process began at 7 a.m. in 1, 176 polling stations in Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani, and Thowra constituencies. An estimated 64.58 per cent of the total 7.96 lakh electors had exercised their franchise till 3 p.m. on Saturday for bypolls to five Assam Assembly constituencies where voting is underway.
A total of 31 candidates in Assam were contesting and the polling went on till 5 p.m.
Assam's Gossaigaon constituency recorded a 77.20% turnout where a total of 1,47,167 out of a registered 1,90,640 voted. Of them, 73,006 were female and 74,161 were male. Similarly, Bhabanipur constituency saw a 76.84% turnout. Here, out of a total of 1,48,144 registered voters, 1,13,836 cast their votes. Of them, 58,019 were male and 55,817 were female.
In Tamulpur constituency, the recorded voter turnout was 67.84%, the lowest of the five. Out of a total of 2,17,432, only 1,47,497 voted. While 73,018 were male voters, 74,479 were female.
Mariani constituency saw a total of 89,100 people voting out of 1,24,269 registered. The total turnout registered was 71.70%. Out of them 44,562 were female and 44,538 were male.
Thowra constituency recorded the highest turnout of 77.56% where out of registered 1,15,971 voters, 89,948 exercised their right. Of them 44,511 were female and 45,497 were male.
Interestingly, none of the total of 4 registered voters of the other gender in all the constituencies appeared to vote.
Live monitoring and webcasting tools were used by the ECI, Assam Chief Electoral Officer, and District Election Officer for monitoring of poll day proceedings as per ECI's direction. Webcasting was done across all constituencies. Out of these, 285 were in 28-Gossaigaon, 213 at 41-Bhabanipur, 322 at 58-Tamulpur, 183 at 101-Mariani, and 173 at 107-Thowra constituencies.
