Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi has accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of shielding individuals involved in large-scale corruption under government schemes and illegal syndicates operating in the state.
Taking to social media platform X, Gogoi alleged that the Chief Minister is "busy defending people who have looted money through government schemes meant for cattle rearing, and are key players in coal and supari syndicates." He further claimed that these individuals, allegedly close to those in power, have amassed massive wealth and constructed mansions "several times grander than Delhi’s famed Sheesh Mahal."

The Congress leader pointed out the irony in how the BJP, which once raised relentless questions about Delhi’s Sheesh Mahal-style governance, is now silent when similar opulence is being displayed by individuals associated with the ruling regime in Assam.
“No matter how many clean chits the Chief Minister hands out to his associates, they hold no value,” Gogoi stated. “The people of Assam will ultimately oust the ‘Sardar of loot and corruption’ along with his entire gang,” he added, making his strongest remarks yet in the run-up to the 2026 state elections.
This statement from Gogoi comes amid growing criticism from the opposition over alleged misappropriation of funds in schemes related to cattle distribution, rural development, and rising complaints about syndicate operations in essential commodities like coal, supari (betel nut), and others.
While the state government has often denied these allegations, insisting on transparency and accountability in its operations, the opposition continues to press for independent investigations and judicial scrutiny into various government-linked schemes.
