Tensions over a long-standing land dispute exploded into violence in the early hours of Friday at Sibasthan in Samaguri, leaving 10 people injured, including both men and women from two extended families.
The clash, reportedly between the families of Ariful Islam and Akbar Ali, escalated over a disagreement regarding the boundary demarcation of ancestral property. What began as a verbal altercation quickly spiralled into a full-blown physical confrontation, with accusations of sharp weapon attacks during the melee.
According to family members of Ariful Islam, Akbar Ali allegedly launched a targeted attack with a sharp weapon, seriously injuring Ariful and others from his household.
Both sides have a history of tension over the same plot of land, and the dispute had remained unresolved for years, locals said. Friday’s incident marked the most violent escalation in what has become a volatile and emotionally charged conflict.
The injured—identified as Akbar Ali, Rabia Khatun, Nekabar Ali, Taslima Khatun, Ariful Islam, Jarir Hussain, and Sirajul Islam, among others—were rushed to the Samaguri Primary Health Centre, where several are said to be in serious condition.
Personnel from Sibasthan Police Outpost quickly arrived at the scene and have launched a preliminary investigation.
