Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister HimantaBiswa Sarma on Saturday announced that the state will come up with seven newcancer hospitals.
The contract of construction of cancer hospitals hasbeen given to Larsen & Toubro by Assam Cancer Care Foundation. The projectwill cost Rs. 736crore.
The new cancer hospitals will be constructed in Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Lakhimpur, Barpeta, Darrang, Jorhat and the cancer hospital of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will be upgraded in the first phase, the minister informed.
He further said that the construction work will bestarted from August, 2019.
In the second phase, three more cancer hospitalswill be constructed in the state.
