Assam's Priyanka Das has been selected for the Homeward Bound Antarctica trip and she will begin her research stint at the ice-covered continent from November 2020.
Homeward Bound Antarctica is a ground-breaking, global leadership initiative, set against the backdrop of Antarctica, which aims to heighten the influence and impact of women in making decisions that shape the planet.
Priyanka, who is presently pursuing her PhD in space science in France, said that she is elated to receive the call for the programme and is looking forward to taking part in it.
"Going to Antarctica is something I've always wanted to do," said Priyanka.
"I want to work for the development of science in Assam and wish to see our students progress in the field of science and scientific research," she further said.
"I have been trying to get into this project for several years. This time I applied for it at the last moment on the last date of application. I again re-applied with my answers and requested the organization to consider my second set of answers and I think they considered the same and I was selected for the programme," she further said.
It may be mentioned here that Priyanka Das on 2018 was appointed as the ambassador of 'For Girls and Science' initiative in France.
