Come Holi, Assam as well as India is filled with vibrant colours all around. Celebrated in the month of 'phagun', this festival of colours brings a lot of positivity, enthusiasm and joy along with it.
The festival signifies the victory of good over evil and the arrival of spring.
In Assam's Barpeta, Holi is celebrated with utmost fervour. People wait all year long for this festival. The Barpeta Xatra organising the 'Doul Mahotsav' makes it a social event inviting one and all. Prayers, 'Holigeet', enjoyment is what fills the air of Barpeta.
In Majuli too, where vaishnavite culture is found profoundly, Holi or 'phakuwa' is celebrated enthusiastically. In every xatra echoes the sound of 'taal' and 'nam kirtan' offering prayers to Shri Krishna and Mahapurush Sankardeva.
Holi is also celebrated with gaiety in Nepal. Known as Fagu Purnima in Nepal, people play with colours, no age bars, all come out together smearing colourful powders.
On this festival, President Ram Nath Kovind taking to his official Twitter handle greeted the people of India on this auspicious occasion.
Greetings and best wishes to fellow citizens in India and abroad on the auspicious occasion of Holi. The festival of colours, Holi is a celebration of spring and fraternity in our society. May it bring peace, joy and prosperity to everyone's lives #PresidentKovind
