The petition, filed under the pending writ petition WP(C) 295/2022, accuses the authorities of disregarding explicit instructions issued by the apex court regarding the eviction process.

The Chief Secretary of Assam, officials from the Revenue Department, the Deputy Commissioner of Goalpara, and the Superintendent of Police, Goalpara, have been named as parties in the case.

The petitioners claim that the eviction was carried out in a manner that contravened the legal safeguards laid down by the Supreme Court, prompting them to seek legal remedy through a contempt proceeding.
