Religious pilgrims from Assam got stranded in Puri in Odisha  due to cyclonic storm 'Fani'.

A team of 140 pilgrims from Tihu of Assam, 28 Bihpuria pilgrims are among the people who were stranded in Puri in Odisha ,due to cyclonic storm 'Fani'. They were on a pilgrimage to the Jagannath temple in Puri. All the pilgrims were sheltered at the Assam Panda Bhawan near Jaganath Mandir.

Together with the team of pilgrims a large group ofpeople comprising tourists from  Assamwere in panic as Cyclone Fani hits Odisha.

"We are stuck in Odisha, till now Assam Government is unable to connect us". On 27th April, we are hopeful that Assam Government make arrangement to bring us back to Assam safely", said one of the Bihpuria pilgrims of the team.

"As we were warned of the cyclonic storm, we did not take the risk of staying back and wanted to board train to Assam but unfortunately our train got cancelled", he added.

According to sources pilgrims are running out of money. Most of the pilgrims are from villages and came to Puri with a limited budget for up to May 4. The pilgrims who are stranded in Odisha have requested the Assam Government to arrange special train to bring them back safely to any place of Assam.

According to the pilgrims they are getting a good treatment in Odisha. The Odisha government have taken good care of them and also have also asked them to stay at their shelter till the danger is over.
