Rivers Cross Danger Marks

The Dhansiri River (South) is flowing above the danger level at Golaghat and Numaligarh, as per the Central Water Commission's 8 AM bulletin. No rivers, however, have breached the highest flood level so far.

Death Toll Mounts to 24

While the report for July 9 confirms one new flood-related fatality in Bokakhat under Golaghat district, the cumulative flood death toll across Assam has now reached 24. This growing number reflects the mounting toll of this year's devastating monsoon season. No new cases of missing persons were reported today.

Widespread Displacement and Crop Loss

Golaghat remains the worst-hit district, with over 23,000 people affected and 1,781 hectares of cropland submerged. Other key figures include:

  • Hojai: 4,191 people affected; 577 hectares of crops damaged

  • Karbi Anglong: 2,023 people impacted, though no crop loss reported

  • Nagaon: While no human impact is reported today, 1,028 hectares of cropland are underwater

  • Jorhat: No significant damage reported

In total, 3,386 hectares of agricultural land lie inundated.

Relief and Shelter Operations

To manage the crisis, the administration has set up 38 relief camps and 24 distribution centres, which are currently housing 5,109 flood-hit people, including:

  • 1,946 men

  • 1,958 women

  • 1,135 children

  • 62 pregnant/lactating mothers

  • 8 persons with disabilities

An additional 3,864 non-camp inmates are receiving assistance, including food and shelter support.

Animals and Livelihoods Suffer

The livestock sector has taken a severe blow, with 33,146 animals affected, most notably in:

  • Nagaon: 17,917 animals

  • Golaghat: 12,168 animals

  • Jorhat: 3,061 animals

Tragically, 87 animals—including 83 poultry in Karbi Anglong—were washed away in floodwaters.

Infrastructure Damage Extensive

While no houses have been reported damaged, critical public infrastructure has suffered:

  • 12 roads have been damaged across Golaghat, Hojai, and Nagaon districts

  • Hojai alone accounts for 8 damaged road segments, primarily due to rising water from the Jamuna River

Power infrastructure in Hojai was severely affected, with:

  • 12 electric poles and

  • 7 km of conductors damaged in Nam Doboka, Solmarijan, and Nahar Gaon.

In Karbi Anglong, multiple water supply schemes were damaged under the Diphu Rural Water Supply Division, along with a significant irrigation scheme in Silonijan.

Relief Materials Distributed

The administration has distributed:

  • Rice: 90.85 quintals

  • Dal: 16.63 quintals

  • Salt: 5 quintals

  • Mustard oil: 500 litres

  • Cattle feed: 186.8 quintals (wheat bran), 76.24 quintals (rice bran)

Emergency relief items include mosquito nets, halogen tablets, sanitary napkins, and water purification kits. 8 temporary toilets were also set up in flood shelters.

Wildlife and Fisheries Also Affected

Floodwaters have damaged several fisheries in Golaghat, Sarupathar, and Hojai, affecting at least 33 fish ponds. Wildlife impact under protected forest zones is being assessed.

Rescue Efforts Continue

Rescue operations led by DDRF, SDRF, and local volunteers have so far:

  • Deployed 5 boats

  • Evacuated 10 people and 5 animals

No air support has been deemed necessary as of now.

Outlook

The report warns of continued vulnerability, particularly in Nagaon's Kampur Revenue Circle, where floodwaters from the Jamuna and Nishari rivers have inundated 19 villages. Authorities are on alert as the monsoon progresses, with more rainfall predicted in the coming days.
