Gas Leak After OIL Pipeline Fire Sparks Panic in Assam's Duliajan

A major fire broke out late Sunday night near the entrance gate of Sonapur Namghar in the heart of Duliajan, sending shockwaves through the town's bustling daily market area. The fire is suspected to have originated from a gas-carrying pipeline operated by Oil India Limited (OIL).

The incident occurred around 8 PM, prompting an immediate response from OIL’s emergency fire services. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames before they could spread to the nearby residential and commercial structures. Despite the successful containment of the fire, a continuous leak of natural gas from the affected pipeline has been reported, raising serious concerns among local residents and authorities.

Security forces from both OIL and the Assam Police have since been deployed to secure the area and monitor the situation. However, as of Monday morning, the leaking gas pipeline remains unrepaired, further intensifying public anxiety.

Speaking to reporters, a local resident recounted the harrowing moment: "Around 8 PM, a sudden flame erupted from the pipeline. We immediately contacted the OIL fire brigade. They responded quickly and extinguished the fire, but the gas leak hasn’t stopped. I urge OIL officials to take urgent steps to repair the damage before the situation worsens."

Several homes and business establishments lie within a close radius of the incident site, compounding fears of a potential escalation if the leak is not controlled soon. The area continues to remain tense, with residents worried about the risk of another fire or explosion.
