The Assam Government has officially released the final delimitation order for 81 villages that were recently included in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), marking a significant administrative update for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
The final order, approved by the Governor of Assam, comes after a comprehensive procedure involving public consultations and feedback from stakeholders. These villages were incorporated into the BTR through a series of notifications issued by the Welfare of Bodoland Department: Notification No. E-233475/272 dated December 31, 2022; Notification No. E-233475/303 dated November 6, 2023; and Notification No. E-233475/387 dated September 21, 2024.
As per Rule 3(2) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (Election) Rules, 2004, a draft delimitation order was earlier published for public scrutiny. The process involved inviting views, objections, and suggestions from political parties, organisations, and individuals within seven days of its publication. The authority for carrying out the delimitation process was delegated to a designated official via Notification No. E-610598/125 dated June 3, 2025.
Subsequently, a draft delimitation order was issued on June 5, 2025 (Notification No. ACS/LW/SEED/COOP/CA/04-A/2025/03), and District Commissioners of Udalguri, Tamulpur, Baksa, Sonitpur, Nalbari, Darrang, and Biswanath were instructed to circulate the draft among stakeholders. The commissioners were also tasked with collecting responses and forwarding detailed reports, including observations and recommendations.
After careful examination of the inputs received from various quarters, the final order has now been issued, delineating the inclusion of the 81 villages into specific BTC constituencies. The details of the final territorial limits are outlined in Annexure-A of the official notification.
This move is expected to bring administrative clarity and facilitate governance and development initiatives in the newly added areas within the Bodoland Territorial Region.
