The Kamrup Metro District Transport Office (DTO) has conducted a meeting on Monday to aware the people regarding the new Motor Vehicle Act, 2019 that has been implemented with effect from September 1.
The meeting was attended by renowned people representing the citizens,different organizations related with the transport sector and officials of DTO.
It was decided in the meeting that the DTO will organize programmes inorder to aware the people regarding the new motor vehicle act.
It may be mentioned that, according to the new Motor Vehicle Act, drunkdriving will have to pay a hefty fine of Rs. 10,000 which was earlier Rs. 2000.Moreover, the person who will ride without wearing helmet will now have to payRs. 1000 instead of Rs. 200.
Driving without seat belt will have to pay Rs. 1000 which was earlierRs. 300. People who will drive a car by talking in mobile phone will have topay a fine of Rs. 5000 instead of Rs. 100.
Driving without license will charge Rs. 5000 instead of Rs. 500 andpillion riders will have to pay Rs. 1000 which was earlier Rs. 100.
The DTO officials further said that driving without insurance will leadto a fine of Rs. 2000 instead of Rs. 1000 and that if a person cross thespeed-limit then they will have to pay Rs. 2,000 instead of Rs. 400.
If one will violate the traffic rule, then they will have to pay a fineof Rs. 5000 instead of Rs. 500. The commercial vehicles which will carryadditional load will have to pay Rs. 2,000 which was earlier Rs. 1000. If aperson does rash driving with a risk, they will have to pay fine of Rs. 5,000.
The DTO further informed that if the people won't clear the road forambulance, a fine of Rs. 10,000 will have to be paid.
It was further stated by the DTO officials that although the minors violatethe traffic rules, they don't have to pay any fine but now onwards, they willhave to pay fine of Rs. 25,000 and the license will be cancelled for 1 year andalso they might have to face 3 years jail term.
The DTO also stated that no minors will get the license until andunless they attained the age of 25 years.
