FM Himanta Biswa to present state’s Budget today

The BJP has taken the final decision of pushing through CAB as Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma gave personal guarantee that he would crush the ongoing protest using his well oiled media machines, confirms the MHA official.

The meeting took place on December 22 at New Delhi where the decision was taken. "Unfortunately there were no protest from Assam Government and the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while the Intelligence Bureau and MHA officials tried to press hard the negative fallout both socially and politically" said the source on strict condition of anonymity.

"Dr Sharma gave personal guarantee that the protest would be done by a few individuals and groups and he would crush them using his media machines with the help of his network both in the conventional and social media network" said the official.

Home Ministry officials are still baffled at the self goal of the BJP in the North East by unleashing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 and threw up their hand in despair. "It was a political decision and it was beyond us" said the source.

The Home Ministry official in private admitted that all was going well for the BJP and till three months ago the CAB was not on table but the BJP took a decision which baffled the officials who were privy to the meetings at the Home Minister level.

"This is completely illogical. The BJP was going so well in the North East and now for a 2 seats in Bengali dominated Barak Valley, they have turned the region into their own graveyard" said the official in frustration.

Troubles for the BJP are expected to mount in the northeastern states as the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday may trigger a negative sentiment ahead of the general elections this year.

In a setback to BJP, the governments of Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram, which are ruled by the saffron party's allies, expressed reservations against the bill.
