Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced special schemes for the tea tribe communities of Assam at Sarusajai.
Sarma said that in 10000 bank accounts of the tea tribe beneficiaries Rs 5000 will be added. Sarma mentioned that in the 6 lakh 24 thousand 404 accounts opened for the tea tribe beneficiaries, the second tranche of Rs 2500 under Chah Bagicha Dhan Puraskar Mela will be added. The Finance Minister said the tea tribe workers would get free rice from March 1 that was earlier priced Rs 3 per kg.
Himanta also said that the rate of death rate at tea gardens was more earlier and the state government has been able to reduce it. Adding to this he said that 22000 pregnant women of the tea tribes have received Rs 12000 each.
Speaking about the deprived school students, Himanta said the students would get free uniforms and breakfast , midday meal and lunch at school will be available from April 1.
To develop a startup culture in among the tea tribes, one time assistance Rs 25000 would be given to the educated youths of the tea tribes.
The finance Minister also announced old age pension of Rs 250 p/m to the people aged above 60 years.
He also said that families of college going students of the tea tribes would get Rs 10000 assistance.
He further said that in one year 500 tea tribe girls would be given nursing training and widows of the tea tribes would get Rs 25000 assistance.
