Along with rest of the country, Assam too observed International Yoga Day (IYD) with state Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal participating at the state level programme at Sarusajai stadium in Guwahati.

Apart from Sonowal, his cabinet colleagues, MLAs have also participated in the Yoga Day celebrations.

On the occasion of fifth International Day for Yoga, the saints who have gathered in Guwahati on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela also performed yogasanas at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.

Chief Minister Sonowal urged each and every one to inculcinate the habit of performing yoga in their daily routine for a healthy body and a sound mind.

In may be mentioned here that in commemoration of the fifth International Day of Yoga, enthusiasts at various places across Baksa, Bilasipara, Dhing, Dibrugarh, Doomdooma, Goalpara, Golaghat, Goreswar, Gossaigaon, Nagaon, Karimganj, and several other places in Assam participated in yoga events on Friday.

Armed forces including the Indian Army, SSB and Assam Police too celebrated the day in their respective locations with enthusiasm. Hundreds of security personnel took part in the yoga camps.

Officials and staff from the district administration and Central armed police forces like SSB, CRPF, BSF and ITBP participated in the event.

International Yoga Day was celebrated by the NDRF as well as the SDRF.

International Yoga Day was celebrated by the Gauhati University NSS Cell in association with Vivekananda Kendra, Guwahati Branch today on the GU campus.

The programme included yoga demonstration by practitioners, exhibition on yogic postures, and talks on the benefits of yoga.

Yoga Day was celebrated at the NF Railway Indoor Stadium, Maligaon on Friday in presence of a large number of staff, officials and their families.

IYD was celebrated by the doctors and staff of different hospitals of the state as well.

Yoga camps were also organised by various institutions of higher education in the state.
