Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka D.K. Shivakumar and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi arrived in Jorhat today to pay their respects to Assam’s musical icon, the late Zubeen Garg.

Braving heavy rainfall, thousands of fans, friends, and well-wishers gathered at Jorhat Stadium on Wednesday to participate in the 13-day Adhya Shradha ceremony for the beloved singer, who passed away in Singapore on September 19. The city, where Garg’s musical journey began, is hosting the rites as a mark of homage.

Organised jointly by the Assam government and the Jorhat district administration, the ceremonies began early in the morning and will continue until 4:30 PM, providing citizens ample opportunity to pay their respects. Garg’s ashes have been placed at a public venue in Jorhat, remaining accessible to fans until October 4.

The ritual program is deeply spiritual and inclusive, featuring prayers across religions, chanting of holy names, recitations from sacred texts, and live musical performances. In a unique tribute, several artists are creating live paintings of the late singer, capturing his life and legacy on canvas as fans gather to witness the homage.
