The Kaliabor Lok Sabha constituency which had been a Congress stronghold, is still with the national party. Sitting MP Gaurav Gogoi has been successful in retaining the seat with 786092 votes.

By a margin of 209,994 votes, the much talked about AGP-BJP alliance candidate Moni Madhab Mahanta (AGP) trailed with 576098 votes.
Mahanta contestingelections from this seat stirred controversy as the candidate resigned from theleadership of AASU and joined AGP refuting speculations of him filingnominations.
However, Gaurav Gogoi, sonof former CM Tarun Gogoi, was quite sure of retaining the constituency, whichhad never accepted any BJP candidate since 1967.
