Former IAS officer of the Assam Government MGVK Bhanu has officially joined Congress on February 11 at a party joining program held at Rajiv Bhawan.
The former additional chief secretary to the Labour and Welfare Department of the state is considered to be a strong contender on Congress ticket against the Bharatiya Janata Party from Tezpur.
Along with Bhanu, ten other candidates including retired Assam Police Official Biren Gogoi has also joined Congress at the same event.
"I will work for the development of the state. The people of Assam never made me feel like an outsider. I want to contest from Tezpur and I will soon submit an appeal. Even if I am not given a ticket, I will continue to work for the party, state. I can still work 20 hours a day with the blessings of Ma Kamakhya", Bhanu said after joining the party.
Bhanu also praised Congress President Rahul Gandhi after joining the party.
Bhanu, a 1985 batch IAS officer, who originally hails from Andhra Pradesh, also served as the Additional Chief Secretary to Panchayat & Rural Development Department.
