AGP president Atul Bora, while speaking to Pratidin Time, said, "The BJP government has been pressing hard to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha in this session of parliament." Meghalaya CM Sangma, who was the convener of the meeting of 11 regional political parties of North-East, which unanimously took the decision of opposing the Bill, said, "Due to majority in the Lok Sabha, the BJP government in the Centre have succeeded in passing the Bill in the lower house of parliament, but they will face challenges in passing the Bill in the Rajya Sabha."

Notably, taking part in a rally in West Bengal on Saturday, Prime Minister had advocated the CAB and said, "After Independence, many people stayed where they were. But after being tortured, they left and came back to India. And that's why we are bringing the citizenship law. I urge the Trinamool to support it in parliament. My brothers and sisters here need it."

On the other hand, Transport Minister of BJP-led Tripura government, has also opposed the Bill.

Meanwhile, several other political parties have also extended their support to the 11 regional political parties from Northeast on their stand regarding opposition to the much debated Bill.
