NRC : Stakeholders submit SOP proposal

The 7 non-political stakeholders, from whom the Supreme Court had sought opinion on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for resolving claims and objections to inclusion in the National Register of Citizens (NRC), have submitted their proposals to the home ministry.

On August 28, he Supreme court will examine the fresh SOP.

Principal petitioner Assam Public Works, a state-based NGO based on whose petition the apex court stepped in to supervise the NRC update process, has filed two affidavits.

Petitioner Aabhijeet Sharma said, "We have suggested a third party evaluation, preferably by by IIT or any other equivalent institution, to carry out a technical audit of the process from the initial data entry to the family tree creation and matching. The NRC authority is a government department and the work of government works needs to be audited,.

On 30^th July, he draft published contained name of 2,89,83,677 people's names and left out 40,70,707 people.  Among these excluded names 37,59,630 names have been rejected for want of proof of nationality, who now have a second chance to claim inclusion in the NRC.

Forms for staking claims have already been distributed to these excluded people and NRC authorities will start accepting these forms as well as objection and correction forms from August 30 .
