Opposition of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 continues to speed up each day as various regional groups and organisations come together to protest against it implementation in the State.

Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti leader and peasant's right activist Akhil Gogoi today took to the streets to start a awareness campaign aimed at providing information to the people on the disadvantages of the Bill for indigenous people and the State.

Gogoi, along with other members, started the campaign at Assam Movement memorial at Chandmari and travelled to Beltola, collecting signatures from people to include it in a memorandum to be sent to the Prime Minister opposing the Bill.

The campaign aims to collect five lakh signatures of indigenous people and include in the memorandum. The members also distributed leaflets among the public. Akhil Gogoi also plans to initiate house-to-house visits for awareness on the Bill.

On Saturday, for a first in the State, KMSS, All Assam Student Union (AASU) and other regional groups came together with North East Students' Organsiation (NESO) to protest against the Bill at Dighalipukhuri.
