There is aflourishing syndicate trade of stone and sand by a section of unscrupulouscontractors and businessmen in the state – who have been supplying thesematerials from Assam to Bhutan via Meghalaya.
Thesand-stone syndicate is being run in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts(BTAD), and allegedly the forest, police and transport department are aware ofthe syndicate.
As perreports, 60-70 trucks and dumpers pass through Indo-Bhutan border on dailybasis.
Sourcesdivulged that the trucks and dumpers of politically-backed businessmen takemultiple trips without challan and carry excess load than permitted, therebycausing huge revenue loss to the government.
The dubiousroles of the district administration, district transport office personnel andforest officials have largely been questioned by conscious circles.
