Second ferry arrived for Guwahati-North Guwahati commuters

Second ferry arrived for Guwahati-North Guwahati commuters

The ferry commuters get another respite with the arrival of the second ferry for the people of North Guwahati. After the North Guwahati boat capsize incident in which, at least three persons died, the State transport department had banned all the country-made ferries that left the commuters in a crisis.

"With the new ferry service, one trip on either way of Guwahati and North Guwahati will take only eight minutes," said an official of the inland water transport department.

The 30-meter-long vessel that cost the government Rs. 2 crores has a capacity to carry 60 people, 70 motorcycles and 4 cars in one trip.

"It is fitted with high power engine for better connectivity. Hopefully, the ferry will give the people a way to beat the country-made ferries while enjoying a fast and comfortable commute across the river," the official said.

The new ferry is likely start running across North Guwahati from January.
