Statues of Assam’s literary stalwarts unveiled

The Statues of five luminaries of Assamese language were unveiled on Sunday in a glittering function at the Laksminath Bezbaruah Park. The ONGC contributed Rs 12.5 lakh for the project which incurred a cost of around Rs 16 lakh.

Larger than life statues of the first president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Padmanath Gohain Baruah, 'Bhashar Ozha' Hem Chandra Baruah, first secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha Sarat Chandra Goswami, 'Sudhakantha' Dr Bhupen Hazarika and legendary writer Mamoni Roysom Goswami together, installed in a huge plate form at the Lakshminath Bezbaroa Park, Sivasagar.

Dr Laksmanan S, DC, Sivasagar, SD Maske, ED, ONGC, Mridusmita Sinha, Chairperson, Sivasagar Municipal Board, educationist Dr Prakash Kotoky and Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, president, Asam Sahitya Sabha unveiled the statues.
