As the construction work at the Subansiri (Lower)Hydroelectric Project of NHPC was resumed, the Assam Public Works (APW) haschallenged the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order in the Supreme Court. TheNGT order paved the way for resuming the construction work.
The APW has challenged the NGT order on variousgrounds. According to APW, the NGT failed to appreciate its own judgement datedOctober 16, 2017. "The judgement in unambiguous terms recorded the extremelysensitive nature of the environment and ecology and ruled an evaluation of the 116-metre-high2,000-MW dam by an independent expert committee.
It may be mentioned here that in July, the NGToverruled the objections raised by the APW and others clearing the way for theNHPC to restart work on the stalled project.
