The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is set to partially restore train movement on the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section between KM 108/6-8, passing through Jatinga Lumpur and New Haflong, starting Sunday, June 29. The section had been severely impacted by multiple earth slips triggered by heavy monsoon rains.
According to NF Railway officials, limited train operations will be allowed between 12:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Sunday as restoration work progresses rapidly. Full-fledged train services on the affected stretch are expected to resume from Monday, June 30.
Goods trains carrying essential commodities, including petroleum products and food grains, bound for Tripura and the Barak Valley will be given top priority for movement through the section. A stranded POL (petroleum, oil, and lubricant) wagon currently at Guwahati and meant for unloading at Dharmanagar, Tripura, will also be dispatched immediately once the track is cleared.
According to the NF Railway, passenger services are set to resume with Train No. 13175 Sealdah–Silchar (Kanchenjunga Express), which began its journey on June 28 and will be the first passenger train to pass through the restored section. Its return counterpart, Train No. 13174 Sabroom–Sealdah (Kanchenjunga Express), departing on June 29, will also run on its original route through the hill section.
To assist stranded passengers due to the disruption, NFR has arranged a special train service from Rangiya to Agartala on June 29.
NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava visited the affected site to review on-ground conditions and oversee restoration efforts. During his visit, he commended the field teams for their tireless work under challenging conditions and directed officials to deploy maximum manpower and machinery to expedite the track's restoration.
