Nilotpal Das, a sound engineer by profession, and Abhijeet Nath, who owns a business, were local residents of Guwahati. Both of them, who bonded well over music and natural beauty, took a day off from their busy schedule and traveled to Karbi Anglong.

According to reports, Nath asked Das to travel along with him as he wanted to witness the scenic beauty of the Kangthilangso Waterfall and collect unique aquarium fishes from their.

They were mistaken for child traffickers after a Whatsapp message in Karbi Anglong and nearby areas went viral warning people to be aware of kidnappers and child traffickers. Also, their looks made them fall prey to the aggressive and outraged mobs as the judgmental mentality of the people looking at long hair and discrete looks were responsible for their lynching too as humanity met a dreadful end last night.

The most tragic part of the story is that Nilotpal Das kept on pleading and saying to the angry mob that, " Don't Kill me please. I am an Assamese, My father's name is Gopal Chandra Das, My mother's name is Radhika Das. Please spare us." But the mob did not show any mercy and kept on brutally thrashing the boys, who ultimately succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

The crucial questions that remains now is how affected are we by fake circulation of information through social media? And how can anyone take the law in their hands and decide to end a life on the basis of only allegation? Also, as Assamese people have we lost our humanity and getting intolerant each day?
