The relationship between unemployment and suicide is well established. A graduate in Assamese literature committed suicide by hanging self from a tree in Morigaon's Kanfola on Monday, depressed over being unemployed.
The deceased, Mridul Kalita who was differently abled has left behind a suicide note, asking for forgiveness from his family and relatives for not "being a good son".
"I have no reason to live. I have no job, I have only one hand…what good I will do in my future," he wrote in his note to his family.
He added, "Brother, now the entire responsibility of the family is on you. Please forgive me. Take care of my nobou (Sister in law) and my beloved niece and nephew."
The incident came to light when family members noticed Mridul's lifeless body hanging by a tree near their house.
