University Recognition For Madhabdev College

The State government has upgraded the Madhabdev College at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district to a University by appointing its first Vice Chancellor.

Professor Dibakar Chandra Deka, Head of the Department ofChemistry, Gauhati University has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor ofMadhabdev University who will soon assume his office in Narayanpur.

An alumnus of Gauhati University and IIT-Kharagpur, ProfDeka did MSc in Organic Chemistry in 1983, M Tech in High Pressure Technologyand Catalysis from IIT-Kharagpur, PhD on Organic Reaction under Pressure fromIIT-Kharagpur, Diploma in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from Tokyo Institute ofTechnology, and DSc in Organic Synthesis from Gauhati University.

A former UNESCO Research Fellow in Japan and CommonwealthVisiting Fellow at University of Manchester, UK Prof Deka has a researchexperience of 31 years and teaching experience of 29 years.

Founded in 1964, Madhabdev College is one of the leadingcentres of higher education in Lakhimpur district with both humanities andscience streams.
