In a chilling case that has sent shockwaves through Bengaluru, a 33-year-old man from Assam has been arrested for the brutal murder of his 40-year-old live-in partner, whose body was found dumped in a city garbage truck in the early hours of Sunday.

The accused, Shamshuddin, reportedly strangled Asha—a widow and native of Bengaluru—after a violent altercation at their rented home in Chennammanakere Achukattu late Saturday night. The couple had been living together for the past six months, posing as husband and wife, despite Shamshuddin being legally married in Assam.

According to police, the relationship had turned turbulent in recent weeks, with frequent arguments, allegedly fueled by Asha’s alcohol consumption and her extended phone conversations at night. Saturday’s argument escalated fatally.

In a shocking turn of events post the murder, Shamshuddin is said to have stuffed Asha’s lifeless body into a large bag, mounted it on his bike, and traveled nearly 20 kilometers through the city streets—only to dump the body into a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) garbage truck. He then fled the scene.

However, swift police action led to his arrest within 20 hours. CCTV footage from the vicinity helped track his bike’s registration number, leading to his capture on Sunday night. The body was discovered by civic workers around 2 AM after local residents alerted the authorities.

DCP (South Division) Lokesh B. Jagalasar confirmed the arrest, stating: “A murder case has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing.”

Manjunath, the house owner where the couple stayed, said he was stunned by the revelation. “They had introduced themselves as a married couple. We had no clue until the police arrived,” he said.

Shamshuddin and Asha were working for a housekeeping product company near Hulimavu—he as a delivery boy and she in a private mall. What began as a shared life in secrecy ended in a gruesome act of betrayal and bloodshed.

Police have booked Shamshuddin for murder under IPC Section 302 and are further investigating the case, including verifying his background and whether Asha had shared concerns with anyone about domestic abuse.

It is noteworthy to mention that this murder not only underscores the dark side of live-in relationships but also highlights the disturbing ease with which a life was taken and dumped—literally—in the city’s garbage.
