Beijing Talks: Closely Monitoring Ramifications of J&K Move

Indiaand China began key day-long talks in Beijing on Monday in the backdrop ofrecent developments in Jammu and Kashmir as Beijing said that it is closelyfollowing tensions in the region and ramifications.

ExternalAffairs Minister S Jaishankar while heading the talks for India told hisChinese counterpart Wang Yi that India-China tie had a unique place in globalpolitics and the two countries have been sensitive to each other's coreconcerns.

Duringhis opening remarks, Jaishankar said, "As you know, the India-Chinarelationship has a very unique place in global politics. Two years ago, ourleaders PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping recognized that reality hadreached a consensus at Asthana that at a time of global uncertainty,India-China relationship be a factor of stability and to ensure that it wasimportant that differences between us, if any, should not become disputes."

Jaishankarfurther stated that it was a matter of great satisfaction that at the Wuhan summitlast year, there was very deep and constructive and open exchange of viewsbetween the two leaders and the impact has been seen in the bilateral relationsalso.

Referringto India-Pakistan tensions, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Jaishankarthat India should play a constructive role in maintaining regional peace andstability. He said that when it comes to the regional tensions between Indiaand Pakistan and possible ramifications, they follow these developments veryclosely and hopes that India would also play a constructive role for regionalpeace and stability.

Thetwo-day visit of Jaishankar was finalized before New Delhi revoked the specialstatus to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territorieson August 5.

Jaishankarwill also finalize preparations during his visit for the upcoming visit ofPresident Xi Jinping to India in October.
