Congress Announces Massive 15 Day Agitation From 14 Nov

Congress has called for a massive nation-wide protest amidst rising fuel prices across the country from November 14. The protests will witness 'Padayatras' taken out by Congress leaders in their respective areas.

"We're going to have continuous agitation against the rise in petrol and diesel prices, massive campaigns from November 14 till November 29", Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal was quoted by ANI.

Sunday was the fifth consecutive day that saw a rise in petrol and diesel prices across the country. Petrol prices stood at ₹ 107.59 per litre in Delhi while diesel was ₹ 96.32 a litre, as on Sunday. Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai stood at ₹113.12 and ₹ 104 a litre respectively.

Petrol prices in Assam's Kamrup Metro district stood at ₹103.23 per litre on Sunday, up by ₹0.36 while diesel prices stood at ₹95.76, up by ₹0.37. Notably, petrol prices were highest in Assam's Lakhimpur, at ₹106.47 a litre and lowest in Chirang at ₹103.18 a litre.

P. Chidambaram also criticised the ruling BJP for rising fuel prices, saying that taxes should be reduced as suggested by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). ANI quoted Chidambaram saying, "It's only the greed of the government which has given rise to petrol and diesel prices. That is why the RBI says pump prices deserve lower taxation. RBI is repeatedly telling the government that pump prices must be reduced".
