On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as 'International Day of Yoga', after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had proposed the idea. This year Yoga Day has been marked on digital platforms amid the ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus.
A message from PM Modi on Sunday morning is the highlight ofthis year's International Day of Yoga, the AYUSH Ministry said.
The PM highlighted how Pranayam breathing techniques can help strengthen the respiratory system to fight against Covid-19. With the theme of 'Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family', the prime minister said, "Efficiency in action is Yoga".
The Prime Minister said, "Many congratulations and best wishesto all of you on the 6th International Yoga Day. This day is a day ofsolidarity and universal brotherhood".
The PM continued, "It is a day to increase our familybonding. Yoga gives us mental peace".
PM Modi in connection with the ongoing pandemic said many people all over the world infected by COVID19 are benefitting from Yoga, they are getting the strength in fighting the disease. "Yoga enhances our quest for a healthier planet. It has emerged as a force for unity and deepens the bonds of humanity. It does not discriminate. It goes beyond race, colour, gender, faith, and nations" and he further added, "If we can fine-tune our chords of health and hope, the day is not far away when the world will witness the success of healthy and happy humanity. Yoga can definitely help us make this happen".
